Ten teachers from the Rhein-Kreis Neuss have now received the Internet ABC certificate. They had previously gone to school and learned how to prepare children in a structured and targeted manner for learning in digital reality. Christoph Schröder, who is the generalist for education in the digital world for the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, presented the certificates to the teachers. He emphasized the importance of practical promotion of media skills already in elementary schools: “It is important that we do not fall back into old patterns in the post-Corona period, but continue to advance digitization.” financial resources have been greatly accelerated. The media center of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss organized the certificate qualification for the first time in cooperation with the State Agency for Media NRW, the LVR Center for Media and Education, the LWL Media Center for Westphalia and the Education Authority for the state capital Düsseldorf. On behalf of the district media center, the certified Internet ABC trainer Gala Garcia Frühling developed practical media concepts and learning modules in a mixture of face-to-face and distance teaching together with the teachers. The exchange and networking of the teachers played a major role.
Gala Garcia Frühling knows the need in schools when it comes to imparting media skills: “I am delighted that we were able to introduce the teachers to the ABCs of the Internet. The platform offers a wealth of opportunities to strengthen children’s media literacy. Teachers can fall back on teaching units on various topics. ”The often playful character is not only interesting for primary schools, but also for secondary schools. Parents will also find a lot of helpful information and support offers on the site, such as the possibility of drafting a so-called media contract to sensitize children to the topic and to create rules. Johannes Feser, advisor for media education in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, welcomes the qualification offer. He is responsible for the coordination of media pedagogical training and emphasizes: “With this course, we are making use of a tried and tested concept from the State Agency for Media in North Rhine-Westphalia. We have adapted this at short notice to the changed framework conditions both in school and in teacher qualification as a result of the pandemic. “
