“Germany’s Economic Future in Doubt: Challenges Ahead for Europe and Beyond”

Brzeski doesn’t dare say what the future looks like. He calls the German economy “as sensitive and changeable as a teenager”. It could be that things will get better in the coming months, he thinks. “But I think the German economy will be closer to stagnation than to growth in the coming years.”

After all, the structural problems in Germany remain, such as the increased interest rates of the European Central Bank, a possible recession in the US, the energy transition that has not yet been completed, infrastructure problems, an aging population, and so on. That would immediately be bad news for Europe, because Germany is to some extent the economic engine of the EU. This is not good news for Belgium either, and Brzeski points out that our country is primarily faced with similar structural problems.
