Germany’s Bundestag Rejects Transfer of Taurus Missiles to Ukraine

In Germany, there have been disputes over the transfer of Taurus long-range missiles to Ukraine for a long time. On January 17, it became known that the Bundestag this time did not approve the provision of this type of weapons to our state.

On January 17, Bundestag parliamentarians faced an important vote for Ukraine. But they did not support the bill that provided for the transfer of Taurus long-range missiles to our state.

Majority of votes are against

It is known that the corresponding bill was rejected. As a result of the roll call vote, there were 485 deputies “Against”, 178 “For”, and three abstained.

Proposal for resolution (20/10053) introduced by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. A parliamentary group called for Taurus cruise missiles to be provided to Ukraine, but, as we wrote above, this proposal did not receive the necessary support.

Please note that the day before, the leader of the Christian Democratic Union, Friedrich Merz, gave an interview to Table Media. In it, he once again noted the need to provide our state with long-range Taurus missiles. He suggested that with their help it would be possible to destroy the Crimean Bridge.

He emphasized that the relevant object is “a critical supply route for the Russian invasion force.” According to Merz, Chancellor Olaf Scholz must answer the German people why Ukraine does not receive Taurus from Berlin.

Is this still a tactic? Or is it ignorance? He must answer this question for all of us, including me,
– Merz criticized the head of government.

It should be noted that Merz had previously repeatedly approached Olaf Scholz. He called on the Chancellor not to delay and provide Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles.

Let us add that several leading representatives of the Bundestag party on defense also expressed their opinion regarding these missiles for Ukraine. They called so that we have the opportunity to use Taurus to hit enemy targets on Russian territory. True, the German federal government considers this position unacceptable.

Note that after the massive missile attacks that Russia carried out in late December and early January, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann called for the Taurus to be provided to Ukraine. According to the head of the Bundestag committee, our state urgently needs in “ammunition for artillery, Taurus and parts for the large equipment we supply.”

Treason for Taurus is canceled

People’s Deputy Egor Chernev told that he contacted his friends from the Bundestag. So that they explain to him the news related to the refusal to provide Taurus missiles to Ukraine. According to him, everything turned out to be simpler.

They explained to Chernev that this was a separate bill from part of the opposition. She wanted to put it to a vote together with others without approval. Bill rejected not because of its essence, but because of a violation of procedure and attempts to use this for narrow party PR.

The people’s deputy noted that the plan to submit a general bill to the Bundestag remains in force from all factions. Most likely, they will vote for him before February 22. Consequently, he noted, “preparations for the assault on Scholz’s office continue.”
