That 66-year-old Baku-born businessman is on the sanctions list of the European Union. Achmedov is involved in oil and gas extraction in Russia through various companies. He is also known to have good contacts with the Kremlin.
The billionaire bought the Luna from oligarch Roman Abramovich a few years ago. The vessel is said to have features such as a mini-submarine, anti-missile defense system and two helicopter landing sites. The Luna is the world’s third largest expedition yacht.
The Luna was in dry dock in Hamburg earlier this year.
