Germany expels 40 Russian diplomats | Abroad

Baerbock says that “a considerable number of members of the Russian embassy are declared undesirable, who have worked here in Germany every day against our freedom, against the cohesion of our society. We will no longer tolerate this.”

The German government’s decision was communicated to Russian ambassador Sergei Nechayev, who was summoned to the foreign ministry, Baerbock said. The diplomats now have five days to leave Germany. It is suspected that they are members of the Russian intelligence services.

The German move comes in the second month of the Russian war against Ukraine. In recent days, images of atrocities allegedly committed by Russian troops in the Kiev region have shocked the world. More than four million people have fled the war that has devastated cities and towns in Ukraine.
