A team of the German television station ZDF was injured in a rocket attack on a hotel in the city of Kharkiv, which is located in eastern Ukraine, the television station reported, as quoted by DPA.

The injured from the seven-member German television crew were a Ukrainian translator who was hit by debris and a security guard.

“This is yet another Russian attack on the free press. We hope that the injured colleagues will recover quickly,” TV editor-in-chief Bettina Schausten said in a statement.

The stricken hotel is often used by foreign journalists because it has a bunker. The Russian army has repeatedly shelled hotels in Ukraine where journalists or volunteers are staying, DPA notes.

According to Ukrainian authorities, 28 people have been injured in several recent rocket attacks on Kharkiv.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the hotel had been hit by missiles. According to the Russian department, representatives of the Ukrainian secret services planned to open fire from the hotel in the Russian city of Belgorod.
