German Solar Prize 2023: Honoring Innovative Projects in Renewable Energies

Every year, the German Solar Prize honors innovative and groundbreaking projects in the field of renewable energies in Germany. This year, Eurosolar – European Association for Renewable Energies – together with the national company “NRW.Energy4Climate” in Hagen presented the German Solar Prize 2023 to innovative players in the energy transition. Six inspiring projects were honored in five different categories.

MORE ON THE SUBJECT

During the festive award ceremony in the Emil Schumacher Museum in Hagen, the winners impressively demonstrated how creativity and commitment can address the challenges of the climate crisis and the energy transition.

Mona Neubaur, Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia: “Photovoltaics are a crucial key to the climate-neutral transformation in North Rhine-Westphalia, in Germany and the world. With your ideas and projects, all of you here are pioneers of the energy transition and role models on the path to climate neutrality. My special thanks go to everyone involved whose tireless efforts bring solar energy into society and massively advance the expansion of renewable energies. We are all united by the common goal of making photovoltaics possible wherever it is available and thus contributing to an energy supply suitable for our grandchildren.”

The German Solar Prize was awarded by Dr. Hermann Scheer (†), winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize, was founded. Since 1994, outstanding actors in the energy transition have received the Eurosolar eV prize for their commitment to renewable energies. Special projects and initiatives that pursue a consistent and decentralized energy transition and play a pioneering role are honored. Cities/municipalities, construction workers, municipal and private companies, clubs, organizations and cooperatives, those active in the media sector and of course citizens who actively support the energy transition through their commitment or through projects can apply.

In its tribute, Eurosolar describes Johannes Lackmann as a “wind power pioneer from the very beginning”. He has been planning, building and operating community wind power projects since the mid-1990s, including around 170 systems in the Paderborn area. Lackmann has played a key role in ensuring that the Paderborn district has been supplying itself with 100 percent renewable electricity since 2018.

It continues: “Johannes Lackmann is one of the founders of the company WestfalenWIND GmbH, where he still works as managing director today and which he supports with his wealth of experience, his reputation in the industry and his professional expertise through the numerous BürgerWIND projects. In addition, he is now primarily working on promoting sector coupling and the development of new storage technologies for renewable energies.”
