Wind Orchestra Wixhausen and Thomas Leyendecker with German premiere

On the 1st of Advent, the TSG Wixhausen Symphonic Wind Orchestra (SBOW) will be involved in the “Echo Helps!” campaign for the 15th time. For the semi-circular anniversary, the renowned ensemble led by conductor Rainer Laumann has chosen music that relates to a story or is known from film and TV.

The children’s book “Wind in the Willows” inspired Johan de Meij to write the tone poem “Wind in the Willows”. There is hardly any other work in which speed and an accident – the toad loves driving fast – were composed more aptly. The symphony “Lord of the Rings” from which the 5th movement “Hobbits” is presented also comes from de Meij’s pen. Medleys from the films “The Wizard of Oz” and Disney’s “The Lion King” will also be heard.

The highlight of the program is a German premiere. The Nordic weather god Thor is the focus of this composition for bass trombone and orchestra by the Austrian Siegmund Andraschek. Thor, his wife Sif and their daughter Thrud are musically introduced in three movements. The Wixhäuser were able to recruit a brilliant trombonist for the solo part: Thomas Leyendecker. He played with the Berlin Philharmonic for 17 years and moved to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for the current season. He is also a member of various chamber music formations and teaches as a professor at the “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” University of Music and Theater in Leipzig.

The concert on December 3rd in the Great House of the Darmstadt State Theater begins at 6 p.m. Tickets Priced at 20 euros (reduced 15 euros) it is available at the well-known advance booking offices of the Darmstadt State Theater.
