German Gigafactory from Tesla is 600,000 square meters and has two floors> Teslamag.de

As announced the State of Brandenburg has published documents on the Internet about the approval process for the planned Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide. An approval according to the Federal Immission Control Act and an environmental impact assessment are required, in the context of which the public now has the opportunity to raise objections until the beginning of March. Part of the documentation is an approximately 200-page Tesla document created by a local consulting firm. It contains some new information about the project.

“In the first construction stage”, the document says, “an area of 1,522,300 m2 is used, of which 891,920 m2 is sealed and 587,721 m2 are built over”. The actual factory building should therefore have a huge footprint of around 600,000 square meters, about 1.5 times as much for streets and parking lots. This would make the built-up area almost as large as the entire property for the Gigafactory 3 (GF3) from Tesla in China, which started and was completed in 2019.

In addition, the Tesla Gigafactoy in Grünheide will partly be built on two levels, as plans in the document can be seen. About two thirds of the building area therefore has a second floor.

On the lower floor, Tesla plans to house the paint shop, foundry and plastic production facility on about one third of the width, as well as the press shop, body shop and drive production. The final assembly takes up the entire width of the elongated building at the lower end. On the floor above, battery production and seat production are planned, as well as an all-round support area. The drive assembly is roughly the same size above the final assembly and to a small extent next to it.

The Plot targeted by Tesla has an area of approximately 300 hectares (3 million square meters) on which there is currently a forest. As can be seen from the document now published, around 153 hectares are to be felled. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that he will create three times the forest area for this purpose.
