German Football League Announces More Sunday Games and TV Coverage Expansion for 2025/26 Season

From the 2025/26 season there will be more games in the Bundesliga on Sundays at 7.30 p.m. Instead of ten, fifteen games will be played in the evening.

“This is done, among other things, so that German participants can be relieved after the expansion of international club competitions from summer 2024,” explained the German Football League. Otherwise, the league schedule remains unchanged.

Extensive reporting

The new tender for TV rights for the 2025/26 to 2028/29 seasons also means that TV stations can report more extensively. “The media partners’ reporting on the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga will be increased both during the week and on match days,” explained the DFL.

This will be made possible “through, among other things, more interview opportunities, the provision of club content and possible new serial formats that are supported or implemented together.” From 2025, broadcasters, leagues and clubs will also be allowed to distribute moving images via social media clips during a game “in order to promote the live broadcast”.

The Federal Cartel Office fundamentally approved the German Football League’s new tender model on Tuesday. Before the authority gives its final approval, companies involved in the process “will now have the opportunity to comment on the Federal Cartel Office’s preliminary assessment,” as the authority explained. According to its own information, the DFL assumes that there will be no more changes.
