Opinion: The constitutional state makes a clear judgment on the AfD

However, the legal decision to allow the AfD to be investigated by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution alone is not enough to change voters’ minds. Comment from Gunnar Saft.

The AfD has failed again in its attempt to protect itself from being considered a dubious right-wing extremist. This defeat in court is a big burden for the upcoming election campaigns.

A German court made a clear decision in this dispute: The AfD is still suspected of being an anti-right wing issue and therefore the Office for the Protection of the Constitution could continue to use intelligence methods. A clear decision that consistently contradicts all the objections raised by the AfD, which had sued against such a classification. Just like a previous decision of other judges in the same case.
