Gerhard Berger “Not involved in Audi’s F1 project”[F1-Gate.com]

Gerhard Berger, who was linked to Audi’s F1 project, has decided not to change his life again by returning to F1.

In December, it was reported that Gerhard Berger would take a key role in Audi F1. A source at the Volkswagen Group said Berger would take over as the team’s super-advisor in a “Niki Lauda-like role”. Previously, Berger was also mentioned as a candidate for Ferrari’s F1 team principal.

Former Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger told Speedweek that the world with his children played a role in his unwillingness to return to F1, despite some talk.

“There were considerations, but then again life had to be arranged differently. Young children play an important role,” said Gerhard Berger.

“I want to take my 6-year-old son to his first kart race and my 9-year-old daughter to go horseback riding. I want to spend more time with them. I have several requests, all very interesting. But, like I said, it didn’t fit my life plan.”

Audi won’t officially enter Formula 1 as an engine supplier and Sauber partner until 2026, but preparations are already being made hard behind the scenes. For example, to ensure a smooth transition from Alfa Romeo to Audi, Sauber hired former McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl as CEO.
