“GERB Has No Current Opponent in “Vazrazhdane”, Says MP Deyan Nikolov”

At the moment, GERB has no opponent in the face of “Vazrazhdane”, although over the years Kostadin Kostadinov’s party has been subject to repression. This was said in the “Day ON AIR” studio by “Vazrazhdane” MP Deyan Nikolov.

“We have been in conflict with almost all of Borisov’s clubs – from the prosecutor’s office to the services,” the guest pointed out and explained that at the moment GERB does not want Kostadin Kostadinov’s party to be their enemy, and Boyko Borisov’s main priority is to form a government.

“He currently has no opponent in the face of “Vazrazhdane”, emphasized the MP.

Nikolov does not know whether there will be a meeting between the management of GERB and “Vazrazhdane” and whether there has been an invitation to one at all.

He recalled the position of “Vazrazhdane” that there will probably not be a cabinet, although some changes are currently being observed – such as the general positions of the first two coalitions regarding the legislative program of the parliament.

“Regarding the budget – it is certainly a priority for us. The state has been working on autopilot from a budgetary point of view for a long time. We must make efforts to pass the budget,” Nikolov noted and predicted that the state’s plan-bill could be adopted within a month and a half.

According to him, “Vazrazhdane” has points of contact with the other parties in the parliament on some topics of the budget, such as income and support for business.

“From what I hear, I think we are all of the same opinion. From now on, the question is about the deficit – should we sacrifice the next one year, which will be difficult because of the global crisis processes, should we sacrifice it for joining the Eurozone” , he asked.

from “Vazrazhdane” believe that 1-1.5% can be saved from the deficit and this goes through the optimization of capital costs. “In the expenditure part, optimizations of BGN 2-3 billion can be made,” Nikolov pointed out.

The guest believes that the growth of the economy proposed by the caretaker government is not realistic. He recalled that the forecast of the European Commission and the IMF is for 1.4 percent growth, while 1.8 percent is set in the budget.

“It is very important on what basis you think. However, the idea is not to lie to ourselves or the EC, but we have to make a budget that is real and must be fulfilled,” explained Nikolov.

According to him, business should not pay the price for “what the state has been doing in the last 1-2 years”. “The more the state interferes in business and the established practices of doing business freely, it usually creates difficulties in the short and long term,” added the deputy from “Vazrazhdane”.

Nikolov is still of the opinion that there may be state intervention in certain sectors that have reported huge profits during the pandemic – the pharmaceutical industry and the weapons sector. If they are taxed at 30%, a gap of 1-2% in the deficit is expected to be covered.

According to the deputy from “Vazrazhdane”, the more important question is not what debt the state will withdraw, but under what conditions it will be done and whether we will be able to pay the interest on this loan.
