Sofia / world today news/ The great Bulgarian actor Georgi Cherkelov has passed away. He was born on June 25, 1930 in Haskovo.

After studying law for three years at Sofia University, he decided to graduate from VITIZ “Krastyo Sarafov”. In 1956, he graduated with a degree in acting and directing. He began his career as an artist in the Vrachan Theater. He also played on the stages of the Youth, Satirical and People’s Theaters. From 1985 to 1990, he was the director of the Pleven Drama Theater, after which he returned to the National Theater. He is the director of Salinger’s production of The Savior in the Rye, which premiered on the Pleven stage.

His debut in the cinema was in 1961. He gained wide popularity mainly with his role as Bogdan Velinski from the series “Every Kilometer”, where he played a collective image of Nikola Geshev – head of the “Fighting Communism” department in the country until 1944, who devoted his whole life to the fight against communism in Bulgaria.

For 50 years, Cherkelov has created over 100 roles in the theater and about 70 roles in the cinema. He has recreated the most central characters in Shakespeare’s plays.
