Genesis is reforming for a UK tour in 2020

Phil Collins’ progressive rock band Genesis will reform for a UK tour in late 2020, he announced on social media. “The Last Domino?” is the trio’s first tour in thirteen years.

Phil Collins, on drums and vocals, Mike Rutherford on guitar and Tony Banks on keyboard, all 69, form the second period Genesis, after Peter Gabriel left in 1975 from the group founded eight years earlier. They will be joined by Phil Collins’ son, Nicholas, 18, on drums, and Daryl Stuermer on guitar and bass.

With hits like “I Can’t Dance” and “That’s all”, Genesis was very successful in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, selling over 130 million albums. Phil Collins left the group in 1996 and sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist.

“Good time to discuss it”

He announced his retirement in 2011, after accumulating many health problems. But he announced his return to the scene five years later, with a series of concerts.

His return to the stage was the trigger for the reformation of the group, said Wednesday his sidekick Tony Banks. “Phil has been on tour for two and a half years and it seemed like a good time to discuss it,” he told the BBC.

Genesis’ last major European and North American tour dates back to 2007. It was the first of the rock group for fifteen years.

This time, the group will perform in Liverpool, Newcastle and London in November, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow (Scotland) in December. Tickets will go on sale Friday.
