General practitioners have expected a shortage of flu vaccines, but less flu

“We ordered the maximum number that we could order, which was initially not enough”, says Marjan Verhoef of the Hallumer practice. She had already expected that demand would be higher than last year. “That’s why we ordered more than last year, but we were at the maximum.”

Sixty people could not get the shot. “We have now placed a backorder for this and hope to vaccinate it in December”, says Verhoef.

Expected less flu

Verhoef expects that fewer people will get the flu this year. “It has yet to be winter for us. In Australia, where it has already been winter, we saw that there was less flu there. That gives citizens courage”, says Verhoef.

The fact that there was less flu in Australia probably has to do with all corona measures. “Hygiene measures that we now also use for corona are also good for preventing the spread of flu.”
