GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 16GB on the way?

Nvidia seems to be changing plans. At the turn of the year, it will release the new most powerful graphics GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and 16GB model RTX 3070 Ti. But on the contrary, she canceled the Super cards. There are also quite surprising rumors: about PCI Express 5.0 and again a new new power connector.

It seems that Nvidia is preparing changes in its portfolio of gaming graphics cards GeForce, to which it will probably add new models around the turn of the year, expanding the offer with new options. We had it recently information on several GeForce RTX 3000 “Super” modelsthat should come out. But now there were rumors that it would be different. On the contrary, the company is preparing GeForce RTX 3090 Ti as well as graphics with more memory, which have been missing so far.

WebCardCardz and other sources before him now write that Nvidia seems to add only three graphics to the GeForce graphics menu, but it won’t be Super models that showed previous reports (I must say from a very reliable source, but Nvidia’s plans often changes). It even seems that Nvidia won’t use the name Super at all this time.

Instead, it will release a new GeForce RTX 3090 Ti model, which will probably match the previously leaked GeForce RTX 3090 Super, a new version of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti with more memory – which could attract a lot of interest – and finally a GeForce RTX 2060 with 12GB of memory, about which we already had information here last month.

GeForce RTX 3090 Ti: a new model securing Nvidia’s high-end line

The first of the cards is supposed to ensure that Nvidia continues to hold the symbolically important throne of the fastest high-end graphics. The original GeForce RTX 3090 model will therefore be replaced by a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti card, which will have a fully active GA102 chip with 10,752 shaders (84 SM blocks), 84 RT cores and 336 tensor cores. This card could also have increased frequencies compared to the original RTX 3090 model, because VideoCardz again brings information that Nvidia will roughly raise power consumption. Already 350 W of the RTX 3090 set previous records, but this new RTX 3090 Ti will reportedly have an even more brutal consumption, equal to 450 W – this number now reportedly lists internal documents as TDP.

Except that the card won’t be called Super, otherwise the specification fits with past leaks, so Nvidia probably just changed the name. Leaker Kopite7kimi himself said last time that he was not sure about the designation RTX 3090 and admitted that it could be RTX 3090 Ti instead. Looks like it really happened.

Again, the previous message is returned that this graphic will have GDDR6X memory accelerated at 21.0 GHz effectively, which with a 384-bit bus gives a throughput of 1008 GB / s. Interestingly, there is supposed to be a change in the cast – while the GeForce RTX 3090 uses 24 pieces of 1GB (8Gb) GDDR6X chips, this model RTX 3090 Ti could have 2GB (16Gb) chips instead. The total memory capacity would remain 24 GB, but this time there would be only 12 chips, so they could be mounted on only one side of the PCB.

We’ll see if it helps against the failure of the cards that RTX 3090 graphics occasionally hit in New World. After all, these problems didn’t seem to be just a matter of Evga cards, and they allegedly continue to happen, although Amazon has implemented the FPS limit in menus and recording screens. The memories on both sides of the PCB probably contributed to its warming up.

However, the PCB could also be completely new, and such information is said to be circulating. Reorganizing the components could improve cooling. Alternatively, it is possible that due to the inflation of power up to 450 W (and more during overclocking) required the addition of additional power phases, and the board will be new therefore.

Another new power connector, PCIe 5.0?

In addition to this change in memory placement, however, there may be another change, this time quite surprising. Nvidia for Ampere cards last year it came with its own new power connector, but now he can leave him again immediately. The GeForce RTX 3090 Ti may have a new connector, this time a 16-pin one. Perhaps this time it should be a standardized Molex Micro-Fit 3.0 connector.

VideoCardz says that maybe it could be standardized for PCI Express 5.0 cards, but that’s probably not confirmed yet – we’ll see if it’s a rumor (and by the way, this special connector could only apply to Foudners Edition cards, not non-reference).

GeForce RTX 3090 Ti probably shouldn’t be able to do PCIe 5.0 yet, unless the GA102 chip has undergone some significant revision. Otherwise, this functionality would have to be hidden in it from the beginning and only now would it be turned on. Maybe such a scenario is not without a chance, because last year Nvidia surprised with that has released a mobile GPU with Turing architecture, already supporting PCI Express 4.0, although no other graphics of this generation could do it. That something similar was going to happen to you at the RTX 3090?

Will GeForce RTX 3070 get more memory?

The other two cards will no longer be so radical, but they will still bring something that was called for: namely, an increase in memory, which, on the contrary, should not have come according to the escape about Super mods. Nvidia is said to plan to release a new version instead of the GeForce RTX 3070 Super card model GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, but this time with 16GB of memory instead of the 8GB capacity that the card now has.

Again, the 2GB of GDDR6X memory would be used – so eight would be enough and the card would not need a new PCB. It would just install other chips and change the firmware of the card. Unmagnified 8GB of memory was one of the things that was criticized on the RTX 3070 Ti, so this would be a step in the right direction. But the question is whether, for example, Nvidia will not increase the price of the card, which is already quite high ($ 600, which is close to the official price of RTX 3080, $ 700). On the other hand, today’s market does not play at all in official amounts, so this would only start to matter if the bubble in the cryptocurrency market bursts and graphics prices returned to normal recommended amounts.

GeForce RTX 2060 12GB really on the way

The third new graphic is supposed to be paradoxically old graphics – Nvidia is said to be really working on GeForce RTX 2060 with 12 GB of memory, which we wrote about recently, ie on the model from the Turing generation (original RTX 2060 card released in January 2019). This card could have the same performance as the original model, but thanks to the 12GB memory, its performance will not decrease as much where the small 6GB memory of the original model was no longer enough. However, throughput will not change because the bus will still be 192-bit.

New cards in January, no Super

It is said that Nvidia will publish these three graphics in January 2022. So they will not be this year. So far, the Refresh Rome will contain only the new highest and most expensive model, the 16GB version of the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, and then the old-new returning Turing, which will complete the offer below and perhaps could be cheaper than the GeForce RTX 3060. VideoCardz states that three new features now the Nvidia roadmap shown to partner card manufacturers – or at least the one that got to VideoCardz – shows nothing more.

There are no Super cards in it, although previous reports have spoken about them. We don’t know if they were wrong or just Nvidia changed plans in the meantime. Cryptocurrencies have been oscillating quite a bit lately between skeptical crashes and horny growth, so if a company takes into account the forecast of their development, it can change its strategy quite abruptly.
