Gastronomy and music, San Miguel’s plan for a magnificent Sunday

The queue stretched up the side of the restaurant minutes before the entrance opened. On the right, the sea with a profile of Malaga in the background. On the left, the house of José Carlos García, a gastronomic temple where the start of a perfect Sunday awaited the little more than 80 attendees: brunch prepared by the Michelin star from Malaga, acoustic concert by Kiko Veneno and lots of Magna from San Miguel .

To this already round proposal, an extra luxury was added, the work as mistress of ceremonies of Laura Insausti, singer and soul of Dry Martina.

Among those attending this exclusive event alternated fans of the singer from Figueres, who released his new album ‘Hambre’ in the summer of last year; unconditional fans of the chef from Malaga; and lovers of culture who could not resist a high-rise plan that combined music and gastronomy paired with good beer in a privileged setting.

This magnificent ecosystem made people like Pilar, a client of José Carlos García for more than 20 years, share a table, talk and laugh; Maite and José Gabriel, a couple of gourmets who did not want to waste the opportunity to get to know the restaurateur’s kitchen enlivened by the concert as “pre Valentine’s Day”; or Juan, a follower of Veneno since its inception who attended with a group of friends.

As explained by Iris de Palacio, Brand Manager Territory of Mahou San Miguel, the objective of this series of these cultural and culinary encounters was to surprise people with a unique and unrepeatable proposal through which to bring José Carlos García’s cuisine closer to the people of Malaga. «We sought to innovate and offer a different experience by combining the territories in which we are present, as is our firm commitment to gastronomy and music. For this we bet on our own concept, of level but at the same time informal and fun. Perfect for Sunday as it is the ‘brunch’, “said the person in charge.

This blow of effect more than achieved its goal, not only because of the ‘sold out’ of the session, but also because of the feedback from the participants, who were delighted with the meeting organized by San Miguel. This was the case of the businessman from Malaga Juan Manuel Burón, known as ‘Buri’, an admirer of Veneno’s music who defined the proposal as “wonderful, original and highly recommended”. Owner of the Casa Lola restaurants, Burón was convinced that these meetings will succeed among Malagans as Magna de San Miguel does in its establishments. “It is a product that is still being known, but we have verified that whoever tries it repeats it”, he underlined.

For her part as hostess, she was delighted to be able to participate in the experience. «Proposals like this are necessary, different and that offer added value, as in this case combining gastronomy and music in a city like Malaga, which is in full swing and where people turn up, as evidenced by the long list of people who they have been left out. It’s fantastic because, as I always say, music should be where there’s a plug”, Insausti pointed out excitedly.

The next sessions of these Magnificent Acústicos will be carried out by Marlango, the duo formed by Leonor Watling and Alejandro Pelayo, on March 20 and La Bien Querida, on April 24, although in both cases there are very few tickets available. As they affirm from the brand, it is a selection of «sybaritic artists» at the height of the restaurant.

Gourmet morsels

With the care and creativity that is already a trademark of the house, José Carlos García offered a variety of snacks, presented mostly in buffet format, which was divided between a selection of cold, hot and, as a climax, a table of sweets . Among the preparations there were signs of identity of his cuisine, such as the salty Polvorón or the steak tartar, which he combined with oysters and dishes such as the scallop ceviche, the duck salad, the suckling pig croquettes or the cheeks, among many other delicacies. .

That selection of gourmet morsels was also the dynamic of the Veneno concert, which came in trio format with José Torres on guitar and Juan Ramón Carames on bass. Upon arrival, Veneno was amazed, sharing with the public that “this was not a brunch, it was something beyond” and, after the warm welcome, he anticipated: “I’m going to have to sing ‘Flying Voy’ to these people ». And he kept his promise to him. Incombustible hits such as ‘Memphis Blues’, ‘Mi Abanico de Cristal’, ‘En un Mercedes blanco’ or ‘Joselito’, which he performed to the accompaniment of the audience.

Demonstrating that even in the classics music is a living entity, the artist covered ‘I’m loving you madly’ by the Grecas, a ‘mash up’ to which he incorporated verses as appropriate for the occasion as: «Give the boys a beer, you’ll see that it’s going to end soon / Give the boys a beer, you’ll see how good they are, they’ll thank you».

As the end of the party and in a sort of second encore, the artist heard the public’s request and closed the performance with ‘Lobo López’. What a good day.
