Gasthaus Husmann in Groß Lessen: restart with music in the garden

Groß Lessen – For a long time, owing to the current circumstances, it was quiet in the Husmann inn in Groß Lessen. That should be over soon: On Saturday, July 24th, the band “30 minutes” from Minden will be performing here. The trio will “inaugurate” the new outdoor stage of the inn with acoustic pop.

The almost 30 square meter area was created this year and can also be used as an additional terrace. The pandemic-related closure was used for various construction measures, reports owner Jens Fischer: The hall received new ventilation and a new lighting system, ten windows and a glass door were replaced and a new awning was installed outside. This resulted in a total of around 100,000 euros in costs, but fortunately there is currently an investment promotion program. “We hope that everything will be finished by September.”

However, there were not only changes in structural terms – the orientation of the company is also being adjusted. Family celebrations and large celebrations in particular have been in the foreground up to now, but “due to Corona, many celebrations were first postponed and then canceled entirely.” Accordingly, he was unable to continue to employ many employees as usual. In order to compensate for that, food outside the home was also offered on a small scale at times. “On the last weekend before Corona, we had six events, from a company party to a cabbage dinner to a tea dance,” remembers the innkeeper. That will no longer be possible in the future: The plan is to host one large or two smaller events per weekend. “The big problem is the kitchen and service staff.” Many people have now oriented themselves differently, and he himself no longer works full-time as a restaurateur, but works – as a trained wholesale and foreign trade clerk – part-time in a Sulingen building materials company .

Jens Fischer has also given some thought to the issue of company succession. His own children have no ambitions to take over the inn one day, and he sees himself in this position for another 15 years. He is therefore also open to hiring a young chef who has a long-term interest in taking over the business, possibly with a focus more on the restaurant: “This is the chance for a chef to realize himself.”

Until it gets that far, however, a new start should take place: “We now want to gain a foothold again with events.” We are happy to organize celebrations for groups of 15 people or more, but there should also be “smaller events” such as cultural events or concerts.

“30 Minutes” will be played on July 24th and August 28th in Groß Lessen. The formation “Still in Progress” has also been booked for July 31st: the quintet with young musicians from Sulingen and Syke will perform with a mixture of rock, punk rock and their own songs. There will be grill specialties for these three concerts. On August 21st, cheese and wine will be in the foreground, and Jens Schlegel-Steenhoff on guitar will create the musical framework. For all four events, the number of participants is limited under the currently applicable regulations. Tickets for this are only available in advance and can be reserved on tel. 0 42 71/22 80.
