Gasoline costs over 37 crowns, the most since 2012

The average price of Natural 95 exceeded the level of 37 crowns per liter by six pennies last week on Friday. The last time motorists paid for petrol was at the end of October 2012.

The price of a liter of diesel has now exceeded 36 crowns for the first time since October 2014. “Its price is historically lower than the price of gasoline, as the government has reduced excise duty on diesel this year, which depresses its price by several tens of pennies,” explained Trinity Bank chief economist Lukáš Kovanda.

According to Kovanda, the increase in prices will be insignificant next week. Brent oil prices, for example, are to blame. Its barrel costs about four dollars less than in mid-October.

“The rise in fuel prices in the Czech Republic should stop in mid-November. So far, it cannot be expected that the price of petrol or diesel would approach the level of 40 crowns per liter as in 2012, when fuels in the Czech Republic were historically the most expensive. At that time, in mid-September 2012, petrol was sold for an average of more than 38.50 crowns per liter, diesel cost up to 37.20 crowns per liter, “Kovanda added.

A year ago, the Natural 95 was 9.36 crowns per liter cheaper, at that time gas stations charged an average of almost nine crowns less for diesel. According to analysts, crude oil prices have risen in price since the beginning of the year, according to analysts.

The most expensive fuels are offered by gas stations in Prague. A liter of gasoline in the capital costs an average of CZK 37.69. The same amount of diesel is refueled in the metropolis for 36.63 crowns.

On the other hand, the cheapest petrol is refueled by drivers in the Ústí Region, where a liter is CZK 36.78 on average. Diesel is the cheapest in the South Bohemian region, they sell a liter there for an average of CZK 35.71.
