Gary Lineker Discusses Saudi Arabian Clubs and European Footballers’ Money Moves

Jakarta

Gary Lineker asserted that Europe need not worry about the power of Saudi Arabia’s money. Even though there is the name Kylian Mbappe who is widely reported to be targeted by Saudi Arabian clubs.

The names of top footballers have already joined Saudi Arabian clubs. There are Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Marcelo Brozovic, Sadio Mane, N’Golo Kante and Jordan Henderson.

Currently there is Mbappe who is being tempted to join the Saudi Arabian League with a fantastic offer of money. Lineker stressed that Europe doesn’t need to worry about that.

“But until they sign Kylian Mbappe, or some other true world star in his heyday, then the big European clubs will stay relaxed about it,” Lineker said in his column in The Sun.

Lineker, who is a legend of English football, had moved to the Japanese League towards the end of his career. This is because of the need to raise money before hanging up his shoes.

“It’s just a bar league, where older players before ending their football career – like Karim Benzema who joined Al-Ittihad – are the last breadwinners.”

“It was the same as Major League Soccer in America, it was the same as China for a while, and I did it myself in Japan at the end of my playing career.”

Lineker also emphasized that top players who join Saudi Arabian clubs are purely about money. He couldn’t believe that there were players who didn’t see that.

“It’s easy to say, ‘I would never go there for the money’, until millions are hanging in front of your face – then the dilemma becomes very real.”

“Players can guarantee their family’s financial security for future generations. It’s not easy to turn down such an offer.”
