Game Mania reports data breach after ransomware attack – Computer – News

Retail chain Game Mania reports that it has been the target of a ransomware attack last Monday. The criminals were able to gain access to a server with personal data of customers.

The attack on its systems took place at 3 a.m. Monday, January 10, according to Game Mania. During the attack, the perpetrators gained access to a server containing ‘company information’, including personal data. This concerns names, addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. According to the chain of game stores, no passwords or payment details were stolen.

After discovering the data breach, the company has affected systems taken offline. The data breach has now also been reported to the regulators in the Netherlands and Belgium, as required by the GDPR if a large amount of data or sensitive data is involved. Game Mania further states that it is still investigating the attack and that it has engaged an ‘external expert’ to check the security of its systems.

The company warns customers of the risk that criminals will try to contact them via email or text message. The advice is not to respond to suspicious messages. Tweakers has questions at Game Mania about how many customers have been affected by the data breach and what the impact of the ransomware attack is on further business operations.
