Galvanovskis Cancels Participation in Jelgava National Holiday Concert Due to Song Repertoire Issue

Galvanovskis posted a post on the Facebook website: “Greetings to everyone! I come with rather sad news. I had previously mentioned on the radio, social networks and television that I will participate in the national holiday concert in my native and beloved city – Jelgava. Unfortunately, I have to announce that my participation in this concert has been cancelled.”

He continues: “The concept of the organizers of the event did not include in the program the new song “Par savu zemi vakat”. Playing this song was a prerequisite for my participation in the concert. Due to the lack of clear communication, I was not informed and I am not ready to participate in the public holiday concert without performing this song.”

At the end of the recording, he apologizes to everyone who had planned to hear him at this concert. “I hope you understand that I cannot hold a concert on November 18 without performing a song that is the definition of why I am Latvian.”

People have strongly reacted to Mika’s record, leading many to think that his performance was canceled because of the song “Par savu zemi kant”.

“Doesn’t it sound peculiar – the concert organizer determines the repertoire?”, “Names and surnames in the studio!”, “It’s a pity that there are people who cannot appreciate strong words and human nature”, “Sounds like Soviet Latvia…”, “Jelgava turned into a river!?” – were just some of the outraged comments.
