Galicia Municipal Elections 2021: Participation Increases to 35.59%, Over 2 Million Voters Head to Polls

Participation in the municipal elections until 2:00 p.m. in Galicia stands at 35.59%, with 98.37% of the tables reported, according to the data offered on the website of the Ministry of the Interior, which means 1.38% more than in 2019, when it stood at 34.20%.

In this first advance, Galicia is slightly below in terms of participation in these local elections compared to the state data (36.61% with 97.32% counted compared to 35.10% in 2019).

By province, participation at 2:00 p.m. reached 34.01% in A Corua (+1.11%); 38.02% in Lugo (+3.85%); 39.58% in Ourense (+2.04%); and 35.31% in Pontevedra (+0.67%).

MORE THAN TWO MILLION VOTERS

In the elections this Sunday, May 28, 2,225,962 Galicians are called to the polls, which is about 22,600 less than in the last elections of 2019, according to data from the electoral census published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which they collect that only Pontevedra wins in number of voters.

Specifically, some 924,407 Coruese voters will be able to elect their mayors this Sunday, which is almost 6,350 fewer than four years ago. Of these, 2,297 are foreigners.

In Lugo, 270,272 people are called to the polls (almost 9,270 less), of which 1,173 are foreigners. In Ourense, the figure remains at 255,523 (-7,121 people), of which 2,633 are foreigners.

For their part, in Pontevedra 775,760 people will be able to exercise their right to vote, of which 3,337 are foreigners. This means positioning itself as the only Galician province that wins voters, with just over 80 new voters.

At the national level, this May 28, 36,585,840 voters will be able to vote.
