Galicia experienced a very warm and very humid autumn and expects a winter “not very different from usual”

With the current rainfall regime “soon” the hydrographic basins will lift “all precautions”

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, 16 (EUROPA PRESS)

Galicia registered a very warm and very humid autumn since the reference value was taken between 1981 and 2010; and hopes for a winter that “will not be too different from usual.”

This was explained this Friday by the general director of Environmental Quality, Sustainability and Climate Change, Sagrario Pérez, who has taken stock of these months –September, October and November– at a press conference held at the Meteogalicia headquarters, where she was accompanied by technicians from this body dependent on the Department of the Environment.

In this way, it was the wettest quarter since 2019 with an average accumulated precipitation of 558 liters per square meter, which has meant 35% higher than the reference climate value of 1981-2010.

Along these lines, he has indicated that, while in some areas such as Pontevedra and A Corua there was a rainfall regime “even above” 1,600 liters per square meter, in other areas of Ourense “almost did not reach” 150 liters per square meter. square.

Regarding the months that make up the autumn, Prez explained that in September the rains remained average but “began to increase” towards the middle and end of the month.

However, in the month of October the rainfall regime was around more than 200 liters per square meter that “maintained” in the month of November. “The conclusion of the rain regime of this quarter is to identify it as very humid”, Pérez pointed out.

Meteogalicia’s forecast for the winter seems to be as usual, since “there is nothing in the atmosphere” that makes us suspect that the beginning of winter will be “too different from usual”.

“HIGHEST” TEMPERATURES

Regarding the temperatures, Pérez has indicated that they were “higher” than the reference values. Thus, the highest difference was in November, although it was “surprising” that in September the temperatures were “higher” at night and “typical of the season” during the day.

Both in October and November the increase in temperatures above the normal regime “gave up”. This could be due to the effects of the rains, which make it “maintain” as a kind of dome that means that temperatures “do not drop much”.

In addition, the difference in degrees in temperature compared to last fall indicates that they are “warmer” than usual, as in the rest of the seasons this year, which “were warm.”

Along these lines, he has detailed that “there was no month” that was cold, only March and June, which “can be considered normal.” However, the month of July was “extremely hot.”

HYDROGRAPHIC BASINS

On the other hand, the general director has been positive with respect to the hydrographic basins and has indicated that she hopes that “all precautions will be lifted soon.”

“With this rainfall regime, the situation is normalizing and all alerts are lifted before the end of the year,” he pointed out.
