Arsenal legend Ian Wright has criticized a Hammers fan who decided to give Eddie Nketiah his recent contract.

The former Arsenal striker who has cemented his name in the club’s history was forced to defend the Gooners’ academy graduate. The young striker found himself in fine form as the season came to an end after nearly leaving.

The 23-year-old finally managed to break into the squad and hold onto a place after being on the outskirts of the starting 11 for most of the season. Now, after Arsenal confirmed the departure of club captain Alexandre Lacazette, Nketiah has an even bigger role to play as the Gunners look to get back into the top four.

Although the news of Nketiah’s contract renewal was very well received among Arsenal fans, one fan decided to make a sarcastic comment about the striker’s shirt number change. Having previously worn number 30, the striker was given the iconic number 14, a shirt number synonymous with Arsenal and Premier League icon Thierry Henry.

The comment read: “Not good enough for issue 14. We should have let it go for free, that’s a waste of time and money.” Minutes later, Wrighty walked in and turned it off.

He replied: “What is a number? Why don’t you say anything if you don’t have anything positive to say to our players? Can you never call yourself an Arsenal fan with negativity of this nature? Would you say this to Eddie’s face? If not, STFU”.

The Match of the Day expert managed to rack up a lot of praise when the screenshot of the interaction was shared on Twitter, with multiple people labeling him a “legend” for his response.
