Furia defeated 100 Thieves in the NA Finals of the IEM New York

The Brazilian team Furia continues to dominate the North American Counter-Strike scene and wins their next tournament at the IEM New York. For the runner-up 100 Thieves, the final was the last appearance in CS: GO for the time being.

Kln (dpa) – The Brazilian CS: GO team Furia has won the second tournament in a row. In the final of the IEM New York, the Brazilians prevailed 3: 1 (9:16; 16:14; 16: 4; 16:11) against the US team 100 Thieves.

“We were actually well in the game throughout the final, but the defeat at Nuke was of course a setback,” said Furia player Vinicius “VINI” Figueiredo after the game. With the win, Furia also qualified for the IEM Global Challenge, the first major LAN tournament since March. “We are now looking forward to the Global Challenge, where we can show that we can take on the EU teams.”

The final started with a surprising 100 Thieves win on Nuke, the card chosen by Furia. Then, as expected, the Brazilians took over the game and achieved a clear 3-1 victory. Although it ran out again on the second Inferno card.

For 100 Thieves, the final was also the farewell game from CS: GO. During the tournament, 100 Thieves founder Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag announced on Twitter that the organization would split up with the team. The reason for this is that 100 Thieves will not be able to provide what the team currently needs, such as a move to Europe, due to the corona pandemic.
