A crowdfunding campaign for restaurant Proto in Alphen aan den Rijn has generated more than 13,000 euros in a few hours. The tapas restaurant was destroyed by a very large fire in the night from Friday to Saturday.

The fire was created at Proto, that since June 1 the doors were allowed to open again after the forced corona closure. From the roof, the fire has spread to the adjacent building of VERO MODA.
It seems as if the whole of Alphen aan den Rijn is sympathizing with the owners of Proto. The page went live on Saturday around 11 am and there was immediately a generous donation, at 5.30 pm the counter was already at 13,727 euros. And on Sunday morning more than 32,000 euros has already been collected. Germaine Soyer is the initiator of the fundraising campaign. ‘We are regular visitors and know the owners well. When I heard about the fire, I immediately thought: I have to do something about this. ”
Proud of Alphen
She finds it heartwarming that so many people donate money. ‘The restaurant is such a concept here, everyone from Alphen goes to Proto. I walked through the center this afternoon and everyone was talking about it. Everyone is very committed, “says Germaine. That people give so generously makes her proud of the people of Alphen. “It’s not just about the money, it’s about showing that people care about the owners.”
Germaine is particularly sorry for the owners because they had just invested and renovated a lot. “No income for three months because of corona, and now that it is finally time to make things right, this is happening. Very sorry. ” She hopes the insurance can do something. “Everyone hopes they can rebuild it and that we can raise the glass again in a few months,” Germaine says hopefully.
