On July 20, 2020, ‘Fubao’, a giant panda born at Everland operated by Samsung C&T Resort Division, became an honorary Yongin citizen.

Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, presented a special honorary citizen certificate to baby panda Fubao on the 8th. This certificate is said to have been specially made from bamboo sourced from Damyang, Jeollanam-do.

The certificate reads, “‘Yongin Fuxi’ superstar Fu Bao, born in Yongin in July 2020! “We are giving you this certificate in recognition of your contribution to bringing happiness to the entire nation and to cherish the relationship you have formed with Yongin Special City,” the inscription reads. It also wrote, “I support Fubao’s new ‘pansheng’.”

Yongin City also issued a baby resident registration card to Fubao. The registration certificate contains Fubao’s name in Korean, Chinese, and English, as well as his birthday and address. Fubao’s address was listed as ‘Everland Panda World, 199 Everland-ro, Pogok-eup, Cheoyeokyo, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do.’

Twin panda sisters Rui and Huibao, who were born on July 7 last year, were also issued baby resident registration cards on this day.

The honorary citizen certificate and baby resident registration certificate were received on behalf of the three panda sisters by zookeeper Kang Cheol-won, who has been with them from the moment they were born. Zookeeper Kang said, “I’m really sad and sad that it won’t be long before Fubao goes to China,” and added, “I’ll try to raise Ruibao and Huibao as treasures that will brighten up Yongin City just like Fubao.”

Everland also released the honorary citizen certificate and baby resident registration certificate through its official YouTube channel on the 9th. Zookeeper Kang showed the certificate and registration certificate with a camera and said, “Yongin Special City issued honorary citizenship certificates to our Bao family.”

He also revealed a note left by Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il, saying, “The mayor also wrote a wonderful message.” This note said, “Fu Bao, who gave a lot of happiness to the people of the Republic of Korea and the special citizens of Yongin! I am very sad to be leaving Yongin, but I am sending it to you with the hope that you will live another wonderful ‘Panseng’ in China. I am so grateful for this time. Bye. It contained the content, “I like Fu Bao!”

Meanwhile, Fubao, who was much loved and called by nicknames such as ‘Yongin Pu’ and ‘Pugomju (Princess)’, will return to China in early April in accordance with the Endangered Species Conservation Convention. Fubao will only be available to the public until early March. This is because, due to international regulations on wild animals, they undergo health and quarantine management in a separate area for a month before leaving for China.
