From Yeralash Bully to Engineer: The Abandoned Acting Career of Pavel Stepanov

The screen star abandoned the acting profession.

The Yeralash newsreel would have lost a lot if Boris Grachevsky had not paid attention to the young actor Pavel Stepanov. The red-haired boy ideally got used to the role of a bully. This is how he was not only on the screen, but also in life.

The artist admitted that in childhood, like all boys, he loved to misbehave. For example, several times he made a daring escape from kindergarten, and at school he found accomplices and set fire to the Christmas tree. Parents, pretty tired of their son’s tricks, were only glad when he stopped hanging out on the street, and began to do business – to act in Yeralash. And, by the way, he broke the record for the number of episodes with his participation.

Grachevsky assured Stepanov that with such an appearance, “God himself ordered” him to be an artist. But after school, the young man did not have time to enroll in acting – he was taken into the army. After serving, Pavel thought about the fact that the profession of an actor does not guarantee big earnings, and made a choice in favor of technical and economic education. Cinema is just a hobby.

Today, the 59-year-old “hooligan” works as an engineer for the maintenance and repair of radio equipment. He has a wife and a daughter. Stepanov leads a non-public life, but those who love the legendary film magazine will recognize him without difficulty. Outwardly, the artist has not changed much – he just got gray hair.
