Sneakers are extremely stylish, but both the manufacturing conditions and the environmental friendliness of many brands and models are rather cloudy: The production of materials and shoes often takes place in Southeast Asia, under questionable conditions and using materials that are compatible with chemicals that are harmful to the environment are manufactured or treated and thus pollute the soil, air and water.
A way out is offered by sneakers made of natural or recycled materials, where the suppliers state that they have their products produced under more environmentally friendly and often fair conditions. They are mainly offered by smaller labels, cost: about 30 euros upwards. If the workers who manufacture materials, weave fabrics, tan leather or sew the shoes together should really be able to make a living from their work, the prices start at around 70 euros.
If you really want to be sure that the manufacturers are trustworthy, you should check the specified eco and textile seals before buying, for example on the website Siegelklarheit.de, which was developed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.-
