Frankfurt – Packed and ready for the journey: The ancient “Colorful Gods” from the Liebieghaus Sculpture Collection are coming to the Metropolitan Museum in New York!
From July 5th they will be presented there in the large show “Chroma: Ancient Sculpture in Color”.
Prof. Dr. Vinzenz Brinkmann, Head of the Collection of Antiquities at the Liebieghaus: “We are all very excited and look forward to the moment of the opening and the reactions of the American public.”
The “Colorful Gods” are packed
But aren’t ancient sculptures marble-white? 40 years of research in the Liebighaus prove: Greek and Roman sculptures were not white, but multicolored. Even the bronze ones glow in color to make them look as realistic as possible.
