from February 1, emergencies will redirect some patients to a general practitioner

Arcachon hospital is launching a new device to relieve congestion in its emergency department (39,000 passages in 2022).
From February 1, patients who do not really need emergency care will be redirected to a general practitioner.

The hospital has joined forces with a dozen liberal doctors from the Sud Bassin and Val de l’Eyre. These GPs have agreed to release appointment slots to receive patients less than 24 hours after their visit to the hospital.

At the entrance to the emergency room, the reception and orientation nurse may, in agreement with the medical team, offer the patient an appointment with a general practitioner – Julien Rossignol, director of the hospital center

As in any emergency service, it is estimated that a third of patients could go through a general practitioner for treatment. A message to pass on to the public: “we don’t go to the emergency room for a sprained ankle” explains Dr. Lapeyre.

Already GP hotlines at the hospital

Every evening of the week and on weekends during the day, the Arcachon emergency department welcomes, in addition to this new system, a general practitioner in an office attached to the hospital. Here again, this permanence works thanks to volunteer practitioners. On February 1, the system will be extended to every morning of the week.
