From Abandoned Supermarket to Immersive Arts Exhibition Space: The Transformation of Av. Manquehue with Apoquindo

It was at the beginning of 2021 when the traditional Lider de supermarket lowered its curtains. Av. Manquehue with Apoquindo, in front of Apumanque in Las Condes. The plan of the real estate company Indesa, owner of the land along with other adjoining properties, is to build a commercial complex with homes and offices. But the project – whose investment amounts to US$ 165 million – has been paralyzed for years.

While the real estate company – owned by Felipe Ibáñez, former partner of the Lider – defines the future of the initiative, the old supermarket was leased and will be used again.

A few days ago, the color of the roof of the building was painted, which went from white to pink; and the Lider sign was replaced by one with a black background, with letters of the same pink color, and the Fixiona brand.

It is the first immersive arts exhibition space in Chile, which – according to its promoters – was born with the objective of delivering unique experiences, in which attendees are and feel part of a world of creative fantasies through exhibitions. that represent pictorial movements.

The unprecedented space was conceived as an idea by Xavier Pacheco, a Spaniard living in Chile, who after working for 11 years at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM) decided to start his own path. In searching for investors, he met Sorina Burlacu, owner of Events Guide, an international platform that develops experiences for groups of people and/or companies, who was immediately interested in the project. Then the Chilean producer Juan Ibáñez joined.

The initiative will open its doors on October 12. Five exhibitions are already on the agenda, showcasing the work of some of the most famous European artists of all time, using cutting-edge technology to transport visitors to the world of paintings in a completely new way.

The first collection will be From Monet to Kandinsky, A Creative Revolution, which will premiere with the official opening of Fixiona. “The Cultural Corporation of Las Condes came in as a sponsor, providing its support and that allowed us to have a good rapprochement with the real estate company,” said Xavier Pacheco.
