The award closes a gap in cultural funding that arose three years ago when the branch of the Academy of Fine Arts moved away from Freiburg. Until then, the Academy Award was given to young artists here. Now there is a new way to support graduates in the field of fine arts. With the award, which will now be awarded annually from 2020, the donors want to honor the commitment of young art students and strengthen their artistic development.
Vivian Lemmert and Sijin Jung studied at Macromedia University and received the award, each endowed with 1000 euros. They were honored for their work, which was evaluated by a jury. This year’s jury included: Ann-Kathrin Harr (Cultural Office), Julia Galandi-Pascual (Paul Ege Art Collection) and Dietrich Roeschmann (Artline). The First Mayor Ulrich von Kirchbach, together with Beate Schwarz, deputy board member of the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau, will hand over the award tomorrow (September 10th) at 7 p.m. in the T66 Kulturwerk. After that, art critic Dietrich Roeschmann will introduce the exhibition.
The exhibition can be seen from September 11th to 13th in the Kulturwerk at Talstraße 66. It is open daily from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., admission is free.
