Freiburg reached the quarter-finals of the German Football Cup, with a late victory over second-tier Zandhausen, 2-0.
Freiburg waited until the 87th minute to open the scoring, through the header of his Austrian defender Philip Lenhart, and the “substitute” striker Nils Petersen added the second goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time for the second half.
Freiburg reached the final of the competition last season, knowing that it ranks sixth in the league this season.
On the other hand, Zandhausen suffered its fourth loss in its last five matches, as it ranks fifteenth in the second division, a point ahead of the bottom team.
Eintracht Frankfurt, the five-time winner of the title, booked its place in the quarter-finals by defeating Darmstad from the second division 4-2.
Frankfurt owes its victory to its French international striker, Randall Kolo Mwani, who scored two goals (6 and 90), while the Colombian Rafael Santos Boreh Mori added the second (44), and the Japanese Daishi Kamada the third (62).
He scored for the Austrian loser, Matthias Honsack, “29 and 31”.
Frankfurt, the competitor in the cup and fifth in the league, is still dreaming of his historic triple, as he meets Italian Napoli in the Champions League final price.
Freiburg and Frankfurt joined Bayern Munich, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Union Berlin in the quarter-finals.
