Free way to bidding for the eternal work of the Teatro del Parque

The Local Government Board of the Cádiz City Council has approved the contracting file for the second phase of the remodeling of the now called Teatro del Parque (the old José María Pemán Theater, closed and demolished a few years ago, and with the works paralyzed since 2012 due to lack of funding).

The works will finally be put out to tender after the approval of the Provincial Historical Heritage Commission, which depends on the Junta de Andalucía, has been obtained; half a year after the local administration gave the go-ahead to the reformulated project.

In this way, the initiative already has all the congratulations so that the works can be put out to tender (which on paper should not last more than 10 months), budgeted at up to 1.2 million euros. Most of the financing comes from the funds contributed by the University of Cádiz to the City Council under the property swap agreement (the Rectorate of Calle Ancha for the Reina Sofía cultural center); the rest is municipal contribution.

This project carried out by the Technical Office of Projects and Investments of the City Council was unveiled last March, just four days before the state of alarm was decreed in the face of the coronavirus crisis.

This new equipment will have three levels and two floors with a sloping bleacher to allow an improvement in the viewing of the scene. In the project, the entrances have been reformulated and in the stalls the configuration of the sloping benches and also metal stairs have been modified to connect the stalls with the stage. In total, 22 boxes will be arranged and the total capacity will be 1,122 people. Part of the stalls will not be fixed and may be removed to facilitate a greater and new scenic space on a sheet of grass.

It seeks to reinforce the accessibility and integration of the summer theater with the Genovés Park, with the construction of new enclosures and spaces not foreseen in the previous project, as well as the conditioning of others that were contemplated. In this sense, to facilitate this integration with the environment, it will be covered with a translucent glass skin; “It will seem that it floats among the vegetation of the park”, pointed out at the time in a note sent to DIARIO Bahía de Cádiz the councilor for Urbanism, Martín Vila.
