Free Russia Corps: Russian militants opposing the Kremlin

Adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Yuri Sak, confirmed today, Monday, that the Free Russia Corps is behind the attacks inside Russia, stressing that this Corps is not affiliated with Kiev.

In an interview with Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath, he said that Russian citizens under the name of the Free Russia Corps are the ones attacking the border.

He also added, “The Free Russia Corps is not affiliated with us and is not linked to our intelligence.”

Yur Sak did not comment on a question about the presence of Kiev agents on Russian soil.

Russian fighters support Kyiv

A group of Russian pro-Ukraine fighters had announced earlier that they had captured two Russian soldiers during fighting in the Russian region of Belgorod, and had offered an exchange deal during a meeting with the governor of the region.

The Russian Freedom Corps and the Russian Volunteer Corps posted a joint statement on the Russian Freedom Corps’ Telegram channel.

For its part, Moscow says the two groups are Ukrainian militants, but Kiev says they belong to two anti-Kremlin paramilitary groups.

Ukrainian officials say they are Russian citizens from the Legion of the Freedom Army of Russia and the Russian Volunteer Corps seeking to create a “security zone” for Ukrainians.

It is noteworthy that the Russian Volunteer Corps appeared in March 2023, as it participated in a cross-border raid in the Russian Bryansk region.

The leader of this corps is known as Denis Kapustin or Denis Nikitin, a Russian nationalist, and the group openly embraces the ideology of a “mono-ethnic Russian state”.

The Freedom Army of Russia is a completely different organization that fights alongside Ukrainian forces against Russian forces.

This group uses the white-and-blue-white flag, which part of the Russian opposition sees as the flag of “Free Russia”.
