Free online festival should keep young people at home during New Year’s Eve

During the turn of the year there will be an online festival with more than 250 artists participating.

The festival is mainly aimed at young people and young adults, so that they stay at home during the turn of the year to follow the performances. People can choose which performances they want to see via about 40 different streams. The government is depositing a million euros for the online festival.

Goodbye 2020 starts on New Year’s Day at 4:00 pm and ends on New Year’s Day at 5:00 am. Artists such as Douwe Bob, Jeangu Macrooy, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, Suzan & Freek and De Jeugd van Today will participate.

Maarten Schulz from festival platform Follow the Beat came up with the idea for the stream party. He finds it difficult to predict how many viewers the event will attract, but says he hopes for at least 500,000 people.

200 hours of performances

“Normally I’m not the biggest fan of streams, because live is always better. But this year everything is different,” says Schulz. “Everything is closed. You can’t meet. We therefore hope to make a nice contribution with the artists. In total we have about 200 hours of different performances” says Schulz.

Schulz hopes to provide the Netherlands with a ‘fantastic’ New Year’s Eve:
