Traditional American football teams meet on the Bornheimer Hang – 9,000 tickets have already been sold.
It’s been three months since the Frankfurt Galaxy footballers made a guest appearance at Rhein Fire Düsseldorf at the start of the summer in the European League of Football (ELF) and were sent home by their archrival with a sobering 9:33 defeat. After the game with a clear class difference, head coach Thomas Kösling emphasized that a game does not decide a season and that it is important for the 2021 champion to make progress to the playoffs.
The Men in Purple can show how far they have come on this path in the last main round game on Sunday (4:25 p.m.) when they meet the team of former NFL head coach Jim Tomsula again in their own arena on Bornheimer Hang. It is the encounter between the two best clubs in the Western Conference and only this one win for the guests separates them in the balance sheet.
Since both have their place in the playoffs, they could approach the duel relaxed and protect their regular formations. But at least the Galaxy, according to Kösling, should play “full for victory”. “Rhein Fire is currently the best European team,” said Kösling. The opponent put together the strongest squad and, among other things, recruited receiver Anthony Mahoungou from Frankfurt.
On his own side, Kösling sees increasing consistency in the game. The defense he trained delivers, the offense makes fewer and fewer mistakes, and the kicking game works thanks to Ryan Rimmler.
Almost 9000 tickets were sold for the duel, more than at any other Galaxy home game. Additional standing areas will be opened to accommodate all fans. All seats have been taken for two weeks.
