The former head of the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG), Francisco Dall’Anese, called the head of the Special Prosecutor Against Impunity (FECI), Rafael Curruchiche, corrupt. This occurred in the middle of a case investigated by the FECI for alleged irregularities in a file that was in the hands of Dall’Anese.
“Now Curruchiche, in a case initiated in 2020 by the excellent prosecutor Juan Francisco Sandoval, blames me for being involved in a money laundering cover-up, which is absolutely false. This is a maneuver to persecute all of us who dared to touch the powerful corrupt and criminals in Guatemala; for which Curruchiche is only an instrument”, said Dall’Anese.

Dall’Anese added: “I have mixed feelings, on the one hand for being persecuted by a corrupt person like Curruchiche. On the other hand, the honor I feel that my name is placed next to the names of all those persecuted by the kleptocratic state of Guatemala.”
Rafael Curruchiche implicated Francisco Dall’Anese
On March 24, the general manager of the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Coffee Producers (Fedecocagua), Ulrich Gurtner Kappeler. According to Rafael Curruchiche, the directors of Fedecocagua would have simulated buying and selling coffee to launder close to a billion quetzales. They faked purchase-sale invoices during 2010.
In this case, Curruchiche affirmed that they will investigate the former head of the CICIG, Francisco Dall’anesse. He said that in 2012 the commissioner allegedly provided a letter to Gurtner in which he states there was no indication of any alleged wrongdoing.
Within these aspects, Curruchiche assured that his predecessor, Juan Francisco Sandoval, was aware of these actions. He added that Sandoval did not undertake any investigative action in this regard, so they carried out the necessary steps against him.
