France tightens measures: vaccination or recent test mandatory in the catering industry

The obligation applies to all French people and visitors to the country who are older than 12 years. In addition to the catering industry, you must also be able to show the health card in shopping centers and when you travel by train or plane.

The pass is already required starting next Wednesday (July 21) if you want to attend an event with more than 50 people. French President Emmanuel Macron has just announced this in a television speech.

Just like in the Netherlands, the corona infections have risen considerably in recent days because of the delta variant. The introduction of the health pass should prevent further increases. “If we do nothing now, the infection numbers and hospital admissions will continue to rise,” said Macron, who further spoke of a ‘race against the clock’ in the delta variant.

Mandatory vaccination

The French president also announced that a corona vaccination will be mandatory for healthcare workers and other staff who come into contact with vulnerable patients. Healthcare workers in hospitals, clinics and nursing homes are expected to be monitored for this from mid-September. Italy and Greece also made vaccination compulsory for healthcare workers.

According to Macron, France must now ask itself whether vaccination should eventually become mandatory ‘for all French people’.
