France Télévisions victim of a cyber attack

The headquarters of France Télévisions – LODI Franck / SIPA

The group France Televisions announced on Friday that he was the victim of
cyberattack, targeting one of its broadcasting sites, which however has no impact on its antennae. The group said in a brief statement that “one of its dissemination sites has been infected with a computer virus”.

“For the time being, the teams are fully mobilized and broadcasting on air is not impacted in the short term,” added the public group. “However, the broadcasting of France 3 will be transferred to the headquarters of France Televisions and the backup site has already been activated,” said the company.

Ransomware

This is not the first computer attack that targets French audiovisual media. Last year, the M6 group was the victim in October of a ransomware computer attack, which had disrupted the work of its collaborators, but which, again, had not hindered the dissemination of its programs.

But the most resounding affair in the sector dates back to April 2015, when the French-language public channel TV5Monde had been the target of a cyber attack large scope. Its broadcasts received in more than 200 countries and territories around the world had been cut, replaced by a black screen on all eleven antennas of its network.

At the same time, the channel lost control of its Facebook pages and Twitter accounts, as well as its websites, all of which displayed claims by the Islamic State group. It had taken several hours to restore the programs.
