France arrests 6 people for stealing Banksy’s work • Forbes Mexico

Reuters.- Six people were arrested in France for the theft of a work of art by British street artist Banksy that was stolen from the Bataclan concert hall in Paris, a judicial source said Saturday.

The mural, which shows a veiled female figure looking down as a symbol of mourning, was found on an Italian farm earlier this month, nearly a year and a half after it was stolen.

Two of those arrested are under formal investigation for the robbery and the other four would be complicit, according to the source.

Thieves are believed to have stolen the mural in January last year, apparently using portable grinders to make an emergency exit before taking it to a van, Italian media reported when the artwork was discovered.

Banksy, who keeps her real identity a secret, has become one of the most prominent personalities of modern art, with a series of witty works installed in public places that mix artistic techniques with powerful political points of view.
