FPÖ warns of desecration of Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral – Vienna

Because refugees are said to have desecrated a church on the Greek island of Lesbos, the FPÖ wants to close the borders so that this does not happen in St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

“Terrifying reports reach us from the island of Lesbos. There, ‘refugees’ have desecrated a church. We have to protect our Vienna from Islamism! This must not happen to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Let us close the borders before it is too late!” Wrote Vienna’s Mayor and not-in-office city councilor Dominik Nepp on Tuesday afternoon on Twitter.

Sources are missing

In the picture posted three photos of an apparently devastated church interior were put together without citing the source, they should come from the platform “The Greek Times”, which also does not disclose a source and does not provide any further information about the desecration of the church. Nepp titled: “Dominik Nepp”, “So that this doesn’t happen to St. Stephen’s Cathedral” and “No place for Islamists and fanatics”.

Nepp has to take criticism of the hate speech and hatred from Twitter users. Nepp recently joined the FPÖ in the Vienna election campaign with the slogan “Let’s get our Vienna back!” a – with the additions “No mercy for foreign criminals”, “No place for Islamists and fanatics” and “No social gifts for foreign cashiers”.

Report: Nepp new racism “spearhead”

At the same time, he accuses the ÖVP Greens government of being overwhelmed by an “oncoming rush” of refugees, repeatedly calling for border closures and warning “against the invasion of IS terrorists into Central Europe and especially Austria”. Criticism of Nepp’s words can also be seen in the report on anti-Muslim racism in SOS Mitmensch’s top Austrian policy.

According to the report, there has been a change in the key political actors of anti-Muslim racism. “After Heinz-Christian Strache and Johann Gudenus left the FPÖ, the new party chairman Norbert Hofer and the new Viennese chairman Dominik Nepp would have taken on the role as spearheads of the FPÖ’s long-term anti-Muslim-racist campaign,” said SOS Mitmensch. On the part of the ÖVP, Karoline Edtstadler and Gernot Blümel participated in the blanket cancellation and devaluation of Muslims, criticizes the human rights organization.
