Found by chance in a barn where it had been abandoned for 35 years, this car is worth over 2 million euros

It’s not every day that you find a car of immense value like this German supercar that was the top of the range at the time. The car was found in a barn: imagine the owner’s surprise!

You have a barn on your property that you haven’t entered since time immemorial? What are you waiting for? Run to open it to peek inside: unbeknownst to you, it could contain a car of immeasurable value. Ask the guys from the Gooding Company who, thanks to a curiosity bordering on morbid, were able to recover a very high-value sports car from the farm where it had been abandoned.

While inspecting a barn in the beautiful Swiss countryside, some car enthusiasts – perhaps after receiving a suggestion from some local – found a racing car that in the USA is infamous for the untimely death of star James Dean: let’s talk about the Porsche 550 Spyder mid-engined, only this one has very specific characteristics that make it unique.

Produced for only four years until 1957 the 550 was a sports car with exceptional performance for the time, guaranteed by its 110 horsepower engine capable of propelling the car – weighing just half a ton – at a speed of 220 kilometers per hour. At the time, the 550 Spyder was a much feared sports car. So how did it end up in that barn and above all, how much is it worth today?

A very expensive amnesia

The car in question it is a unique piece: it belonged to the driver Jo Siffer, a legend of the fifties who somehow must have forgotten it in that barn where perhaps the car produced in 1956 had been parked for mechanical interventions. In fact, around 1960 the car would have received modifications – part of the RS60 series of the Stuttgart brand – perhaps to remain competitive against the new racing cars.

The modifications applied to the car and the fact that it passed the last 35 years parked in a barn without suffering severe structural damage make this sport special. Add in the fact that fewer than a hundred Porsches like this have ever been built in history and the 550 Spyder is famously a holy grail for enthusiasts.

All of this contributes to carrying its price about $ 2 million even if the experts do not rule out that it can be sold for a single figure even higher. And you? Have you ever discovered an abandoned car in some remote and hidden place? Who knows how many are hidden out there.
