Fossil Fuel Companies Earn $281 Billion Since Ukraine War – Global Witness Data

According to “Global Witness” data, such oil companies as BP, “Shell”, “Chevron”, “ExxonMobil” and “TotalEnergies” have earned 281 billion dollars since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.

British companies BP and “Shell” have earned a total of 94.2 billion dollars since February 2022. According to Global Witness, this amount is enough to fully pay the electricity bills of all British households over the next 17 months.

“Shell” earned 58.9 billion dollars in two years, but the company plans to reduce the number of jobs this year – more than 300 employees will lose their jobs. This is because the company will reduce the division that works on low-carbon projects. BP, which also slashed its climate goals last year, earned more than $35 billion.

The largest European and US oil companies, such as “Chevron”, “ExxonMobil” and “TotalEnergies”, together earned more than 187 billion dollars.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been devastating for millions of people – from ordinary Ukrainians living in the shadow of war, to European households struggling to pay their heating bills. Regardless of what happens, the biggest companies that work with fossil fuels are the biggest beneficiaries of this situation ,” said Patrick Haley, senior researcher at Global Witness.
