Physical education and sports courses may be excellent for physical and mental health, they are more or less appreciated depending on the profile of the students. Now imagine a reality in which you could have replaced running with parts of Fornite (and increased your average with it). This is what several American high school associations, including the NFHS (National Federation State High School Associations) and CIFSS (California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section), are in the process of establishing in partnership with the firm PlayVS.

NFHS decisions in particular have a national impact in the United States. These organizations now allow secondary schools to offer an esports program. Students can choose Fortnite, but also League of Legends, Rocket league and SMITE. They must connect to the PlayVS platform to benefit from coaching, play, and participate in championships. The year itself is divided into two sporting seasons: autumn and spring. Each season is divided into a 2-week pre-season and an 8-week season followed by playoff games.

More than 13,000 high schools allow you to join the program. Regarding Fortnite, eligible American students must register before February 17, 2020, the pre-training season begins February 19 and the season itself February 26. The fact of practicing an esport of the kind in the United States can like with us to gain some points on the average. But not only that: competitions are highly valued for entering university. As Le Figaro notes, some even grant scholarships of several thousand euros to the best athletes. It remains to be seen whether what is true with physical sports will also be true with esports.

Would you like esport to be recognized in French high schools under more or less the same conditions? Share your opinion in the comments.
