Formula E: New York – How To Cars

Antonio Felix da Costa (DS-Techeetah) wins the second Formula E race in New York – benefiting from a penalty against Saturday’s winner Nick Cassidy (Envision).

The New Zealander also raced to pole position on Sunday, but was moved back on the grid. Reason: After the crash in the rain chaos on Saturday, he had to have his battery changed – and therefore started from the back.

Cassidy annoyed at the ProSieben microphone: “Two cars thundered into me yesterday, so we had to change the battery. I don’t think the punishment is fair. They could have told me that yesterday, then I could have celebrated my victory with a beer yesterday.”

As it was, DS driver Da Costa started from pole and secured victory ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes) and Mitch Evans (Jaguar). –

Like the seventh and reigning world champion Nyck de Vries, Evans had to cope with a moment of shock when he was levered out by a bump next to the racing line. Both drivers had to show all their skills to intercept the cars.

For the Germans, however, it was not a good Sunday. After a problem at the start, Porsche driver André Lotterer only finished ninth. His teammate Pascal Wehrlein was eleventh after using too much energy in qualifying and was penalized accordingly. Nissan driver Maximilian Günther only finished 17th.

In the overall standings, Mercedes driver Vandoorne (155 points) now leads ahead of Edoardo Mortara (Venturi/143) and Evans (139). Double champion Jean-Eric Vergne is fourth (DS/128). –

The German stars no longer have a realistic chance of winning the title. Next race weekend: 30./31. July in London.
