Formula 1 Talks With British Government About Corona Exemptions NOW

Formula 1 is in talks with the British government, which recently announced some tightened corona measures. The intention is to have two Grands Prix without an audience at Silverstone in July.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson reported last week that there will soon be a mandatory 14-day quarantine for travelers from abroad in Great Britain. Unlike many other European countries, this measure was not yet in force in the United Kingdom.

Mandatory quarantine could be detrimental to the planned start of Formula 1, although not yet officially confirmed, the first races are scheduled to take place on July 5 and 12 in Austria. Two races should follow at Silverstone on July 19 and 26. All those Grands Prix will be held without an audience.

The Formula 1 leadership is in talks with the British government about a possible exception, according to various media on Monday. With the strict measures taken by the sport itself, Formula 1 hopes that it will be possible to travel to England without quarantine.

Formula 1 leadership has ‘extreme confidence’ will start season in July

In the plan to resume the season, all drivers and other employees are tested every other day for the corona virus. In addition, the various teams on the track, during travel and in hotels are continuously separated from each other, so that there is little risk of large spread. In addition, there will be as little contact as possible with the local population.

Due to the corona crisis, the first ten Grands Prix of the season have been postponed. Formula 1 owner Chase Carey said last week that he was “extremely confident” that the race in Austria could continue on July 5.

The European part of the Formula 1 calendar is expected to be published officially in two or three weeks.
